We have heard our grandmothers and great grandmothers advising us not to forego meals. Their statements are justified and appreciated. But what we must understand that since thousands of years and even during the caveman dwellings, humans have stayed without food for more than 3 to 4 days. Only when they were able to hunt and find something, it was possible to partake meals. After the introduction of farming, humans realized that they needed food every few hours and then the concept of eating food every 4 to 5 times become a routine. Our metabolism is designed in such a way that even if we do not eat for some hours together, we would not die of hunger. This is the reason why we gain on weight very easily because we keep eating every few hours whether the body requires food or not.
In the good olden days, man had to hunt and find food. This involved walking long stretches of land and it also involved lot of physical activity. But in today’s world, machines do most of our routine jobs, leaving us with very little physical activity. This means our calories are not burnt and the food we take just goes and gets accumulated as fat in the body. The new diet program which is grabbing everyone’s attention is the ‘one meal a day’ program. It is very clear that if you want to shed off those extra pounds of flesh which as begin to show on your body, you need to undergo some discomfort as well as sacrifice something for getting back your original figure. The concept of 1 meal a day diet program goes something like this.
Breakfast is a normal routine one which is healthy. It includes a toast accompanied with a cereal. You need to skin your lunch. Just keep having lots of water and keep some waffles or some biscuit crackers handy so as to give your tummy a full feeling. A brisk walk for about 30 minutes would do wonders. The lunch is the simplest part of the meal and you can sacrifice this without much difficulty.
Once you are back home at around 1730 hrs, do not gulp down you coke or cola which you would have done in the normal course. Eat something which is healthy and fills your stomach, but avoid deserts and sweet drinks. The reason for this is:
Firstly, you are focused on preparing the meal of your choice
Secondly you would happily eat the meal
Thirdly you would not be able to eat much since the stomach would start sending out signals that it is full. This way calorie intake can be controlled. Even though the 1 day meal takes some time to get fitted in your daily lifestyle, it is worth it. You can still enjoy all the favorite food items and also achieve your goal.
